Things to do in Lava
World Famous Hot Pools - It’s what gave Lava Hot Springs its name, after all! The state-run hot pool facility boasts five different pools ranging in temperature from 98 degrees to 115 degrees. The piping-hot spring water flows through the complex at an astonishing 2.5 million gallons a day. The pools are perfect for a relaxing winter getaway. And there’s nothing quite like sitting around in your bathing suit while snow flurries dance through the sky and melt before they reach your skin. Expect to spend at least an hour or two soaking until you’re “cooked through” and relaxed.
Nightlife - Lava Hot Springs is home to several bars with live music on the weekend.
The Wagon Wheel is Lava’s country music bar with an outdoor patio in the summer and a cozy indoor feel in the winter. Pool tables, darts and a giant game of Connect 4 are there all year round, with cornhole out back in the summer.
Eruption Brewery hosts music frequently and offers 20+ beers on tap and a varied menu of pizzas, burgers and less-common bites.
The Rooftop Bar offers a stunning view of Lava from the top of the Hillside Suites.
The Portneuf Grille & Lounge in the historic Riverside Hot Springs Inn & Spa offers live music in a quieter upscale setting.
Sledding - Be sure to bring a sled in the winter to take advantage of some steep hills. There isn’t an official sledding area that we’re aware of, but plenty of opportunity to make one!
Events - Fall/Winter features several Lava traditions. Oktoberfest in early October offers a wide selection of beers with an all-you-can-drink samples option. A handful of vendors, kids activities, live music and a duck race raffle cap off this awesome event.
In December, Lava businesses decorate gingerbread houses for a citywide contest. Visitors and patrons visit the contestants, vote on which houses they like the best, and enter a drawing for several great prizes. There are always a few amazing finds along the way!
February ushers in Lava’s famous Fire and Ice Festival, a weekend bash with wine tasting, fire dancing, a polar plunge tubing event, and more. This is a fantastic weekend for book clubs or other ladies groups to come out and enjoy the atmosphere.
